Kaitlin + Daisy: New Ranch Riding and Reining Partners

Kaitlin and Daisy are one of our newer teams here at Wildcat Ranch. They’ve been such a pleasure to watch since they came together about 5 months ago, so we asked Kaitlin to give us a little info about what drew her to Daisy in the first place.

Kaitlin-

“I have shown all-around horses since I was 7 years old. I got a taste of reining while going to chiropractic school in Iowa about ten years ago. I was bored with no horse, so I decided to find a reining barn nearby that I could take lessons at. Who knew that assistant trainer would go on to win the Run For The Million?! Needless to say I was hooked, and I knew one day I would buy a reiner. Finally, after selling my last horse I knew it was time to get that reining horse I had been waiting years for.

When we started looking, I joked with Kendall (Woellmer) that I wanted two things: a gelding and something that wasn’t red. When Kendall told me Steve had a palomino mare I was excited since it at least checked one box. I did'n’t really want a mare, but who doesn’t want a shiny golden pony?! The day I went out to try her a storm started rolling in. The winds were blowing 30ish mph and this little mare didn’t have a care in the world. After the second ride I knew it was meant to be. I had no clue what I was doing as far as reining went and this little mare was very patient with me as I tried my best at stopping. She was so willing, easy to ride, and a shiny golden pony!

I have had Daisy since October and it’s been so much fun! Kendall started Daisy in the ranch riding and she has exceeded expectations. We recently competed in our first reining class together and ended up placing in the top 5. I am so excited to see where we go from here. AZ Sun Circuit and AQHA Level One Championships are next on the list, as well as adding ranch trail to the list of classes we will compete in.

It has been so much fun to learn a new discipline, and having a horse that is quiet and patient makes it that much better.  I can’t thank Steve, Boo, and Kendall enough for finding me such a great horse!”

Kaitlin and Daisy have already added several circuit and reserve circuit titles to their resume and we can’t wait to see what comes next. Watch for them at the beginning of March at the 2023 AZ Sun Circuit AQHA Show in Scottsdale, AZ!
